Hall of Fame update #14

posted by Ricky on August 07, 2006, at 10:37 AM

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you not one, not two, but three updates rolled into one.
Update one: The Saga of the Stars: The Mystical Clock has been added to the Hall of Fame. That media gallery took me two and a half hours to put together, so look at it, okay? The logo was a joint effort of GeminiSaint, myself, and my sister, Hollie. GeminiSaint made the original logo, I spruced it up a bit, and Hollie drew the picture of the Mystical Clock. Hope you like it!
Update two: Tears of Isis has been added to the Hall of Fame. Special thanks to Thalzon for creating the logo.
Update three: Also, I have finally created the Credits page. Enjoy it.

Hall of Fame update #15

posted by Ricky on August 08, 2006, at 2:39 PM

Another update. I've added the RP Award archive. I've fixed up the Rebirth picture in Tournament of Legends, and I've added Wizard's reader comment to Tears of Isis. I think that's it.

Hall of Fame update #16

Added an Updates page to the Hall of Fame. It's for perusal purposes, really.

Leave of Absence

posted by CtrlAltDestroy on August 11, 2006, at 7:54 AM

Real life has been calling me for a while now, and just yesterday it started screaming louder than ever before. So, I'm going to take a temporary leave of absence from the internet.
I'm canceling the main site I was trying to build (trust me, you wouldn't have liked it... I need to take a class.) and putting all my projects on indefinite hold. I probably won't be around IRC at all during this time, though I will make time once a week to continue posting to the RPs that I've joined. But other than that, you probably won't be hearing from me very much.
How long will this last? I don't know yet. But right now, it looks like it'll be a couple of months at least. I trust that Ricky, Thalzon, and GS will take good care of the site while I'm gone.
So, I’ll see everyone around, I guess.

Hall of Fame update #17

posted by Ricky on August 14, 2006, at 2:34 PM

Soul Twist 2: A Story of Infinity's End has been added to the Hall of Fame. Special thanks to Elec for creating the logo.

Hall of Fame update #18

posted by Ricky on August 18, 2006, at 10:38 PM

Conspiracy has been added to the Hall of Fame.
Soul Twist: A Story of A Journey has been added to the Hall of Fame.
Also, I've changed the formatting of the navigation bar somewhat. Does it look better? Worse?

Hall of Fame update #19

posted by Ricky on August 21, 2006, at 2:20 PM

Seven Spirits Unite has been added to the Hall of Fame. I have also added Wizard's reader comment to Conspiracy, and Trauma Advocate's reader comment to Tears of Isis.

Hall of Fame update #20

The Saga of the Stars: Arden's Blessing has been converted and added to the Hall of Fame. Thanks to Thalzon for the logo!

Hall of Fame update #21

Magical Twist: A Forgotten Past has been added to the Hall of Fame. Special thanks to myself (and Gate for his input) for the logo. Razz

Hall of Fame update #22

posted by Ricky on August 26, 2006, at 8:36 AM

This is a double-update of sorts.
I have created a Short Story Catalog of sorts. All fictions that have less than 10,000 words (Gene and Seven Spirits Unite had over 20,000) will be given "mini-entries" (basically, the only things missing are the interview, an actual logo, and a place of its own in the navigation bar) and placed here. Naturally, Super Luigi is the first short story to be added.
Any suggestions for improvements would be really nice.

Hall of Fame update #23

Destiny Dreams 5: The Programmer's Tower has been added to the Hall of Fame.

Hall of Fame update #24

The Legend of the Saints: Tales of the Old West has been added to the Hall of Fame. Special thanks to Matthias for partaking in the interview, and to Thalzon for making the logo! Very Happy

Hall of Fame update #25

posted by Ricky on September 08, 2006, at 1:29 PM

    Triple update.
Update 1: I have added Zuntrios' reader comment to the Conspiracy entry, Wizard's reader comment to the Seven Spirits Unite entry, and MythGuyDK's reader comment to the Blade of Fake entry.
Update 2: The Blade of Fake 2: The Void of Delusions has been added to the Hall of Fame.
Update 3: The Saga of the Stars: The Decennial Battles has been added to the Hall of Fame. With this, all of the entries in the VGRP Hall of Fame have been converted and added to the RP Haven Hall of Fame! Yippee!!

General Reviews

posted by Ricky on September 11, 2006, at 5:52 PM

The Video Game Reviews Board has had its focus expanded and is now the General Reviews Board (though I might change it to Product Reviews instead). You can now review movies, books, television shows, games, music, etc. Enjoy.

Hall of Fame update #26

posted by Ricky on September 18, 2006, at 2:43 PM

The Blade of Fake 3: Void of Delusions 4 has been added to the Hall of Fame!
You might notice that the media gallery has a glaring lack of "description blurbs". There's a good reason for this: those blurbs make the page take twice as long to put together, and I hit the end of my rope today. The media gallery is the most time-consuming/difficult thing to do with the Hall of Fame entries. Removing the blurbs cuts down on both time and difficulty immensely, and I'm not so sure they really added much to the thing anyway. If you want the pictures to have blurbs, feel free to write some out.

Error with the forum (NOT a big deal)

posted by Ricky on September 19, 2006, at 11:27 AM

It's come to our attention that, apparently starting quite recently, that the forum is having trouble sending notification emails. More research needs to be done about how this affects threads that are being watched, and the registration emails, but currently we know that if you send a PM to somebody who has "receive email notification upon new messages" set to on, you will receive a "failure to send email" error. This will not affect you at all- your PM will still go through. However, the receiver will not get the email. I'm not sure what's causing this- we need to look into it. It's probably a permissions problem.

Hall of Fame update #27

posted by Ricky on September 22, 2006, at 6:29 PM

This was maintenance week for the Hall of Fame. I needed to add pictures to the various media galleries, which led to me changing the table format for some of them; I did some miscellaneous changes to the media galleries, and I fixed up the quotes people made in comments to have the same formatting. So, here we go.
The following entries had their quotes fixed.
    - Fallout: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure.
    - Gene
    - Geowalkers
    - Void of Illusions.
The follow media galleries were given new content:
    - The Saga of the Stars: Arden's Blessing (pictures of Matthias, Damian, and Dmitri added).
    - The Blade of Fake 3 (GeminiSaint wrote description blurbs- thanks GeminiSaint!)
    - Conspiracy (added Taxxon and Dredd pictures)
    - Created a media gallery for Destiny Dreams 5.
    - Destiny Dreams 5: Somnium Terminus (added pictures of Gamemaster, Hunter, Sparky, Fabreanne, Binary, and Tourneyman).
    - Created a media gallery for Gene.
    - The Saga of the Stars: The Mystical Clock (added Thalzon's new pictures of Eowyn, Miko, Lode, and Skyre).
    - Tournament of Legends (added pictures of Tourneyman, Gamemaster, Master, Hunter, Protector, Fredrickson, and Binary).
    Miscellaneous changes:
    - I reorganized the pictures in the Blade of Fake media gallery so they are in order of appearance, instead of alphabetical order.
    - Same thing for Beyond the Village Walls.
    - Same thing for Tournament of Legends.
The following media galleries were changed from a three-column setup to a two-column setup:
    - Conspiracy
    - Destiny Dreams 5: The Programmer's Tower
    - Destiny Dreams: Somnium Terminus
    - Fallout: A Post-Apocalyptic Adventure
    - Fallout: The Fate of the Wasteland
    - Magical Twist: A Forgotten Past
    - The Saga of the Stars: The Mystical Clock
    - Tournament of Legends.
On that note, tell me what you think about the new table format. Do you like it better than the three-column format, or not?

RPHaven.org main site goes live!

posted by CtrlAltDestroy on October 01, 2006, at 8:06 AM

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our beloved Ricky, we now have a fully functional main site to accompany our forum! Included is also a complete archive of all RPs that didn't finish!
I'd like to give a major standing ovation to Ricky for his excellent work in taking the project out of my hands and completing it with such excellence and style. Amazing work! Honorary mention also goes to GeminiSaint who helped Ricky get everything together.
Thanks a ton, guys. People, you're free to start your advertising campaigns at other forums... people will be more likely to stick around now that we have a site. Smile
Also, the site will be updated frequently, and you can expect some minor changes here and there every once in a while as we take suggestions and try to make the site more amazing than it already is.
And now, I'll turn the floor over to Ricky...

It's about time!!

posted by Ricky on October 01, 2006, at 9:36 AM

Yes, the main site is up at last! To those of you who are irked by the fact it took us six months, please accept our apologies. The original plan had been for CtrlAltDestroy to design and build it over the summer, but he hit some dead ends, moved on to other things, and then college hit. When he announced his leave of absence, GeminiSaint and I took over. We had some preliminary talks about content and asked the other staff members how they felt the site should be designed, but then GeminiSaint was also pulled away by college.
That left me, and I didn't start until I got the Hall of Fame completely up to date. I pulled that off on September 22, and started working on the site the very next day.
So, what do you think? I did my best to create a "best of" the staff's various ideas, and I feel I succeeded on some level. All of us seemed to agree on a green theme, Elec wanted some blue, Matthias suggested the "Post/Art of the Week", CtrlAltDestroy wanted the colors to match the logo, GeminiSaint suggested the horizontal navigation bar on top...
A huge thanks goes to Vash the Stampede for creating the logo! Thanks a million, Vash!
I also want to thank Thalzon, Dr. Gate, Zuntrios, and CtrlAltDestroy for helping me with the color choices. (The navigation and description boxes were originally yellow, and all of the greens were a lot lighter.)
Okay, then. Couple things to go over.
1: Right now, the Members section is looking sadly empty. If you'd like to be placed there, just send me a profile. It should contain the date you started RPing, any usernames you used prior to your current one, RPs you've been in that stand out to you (same for fictions), your genre likes/dislikes, and whatever else you can think of. Just send the profile to me via PM, and I'll add it in my next update.
2: Artists, if you'd like your work featured in the Art Gallery, simply send them to me.
3: I will be updating the Product Reviews section as time goes on until it is up to date (it currently only has two entries). Same goes for the Articles section. The News and RP Archives are up to date already.
4: I'm not happy with some of my description blurbs for the different pages, and I'm especially not happy with my History write-up. I will gladly receive any revisions you have to offer.
5: I'll be redesigning the Hall of Fame to match the rest of the site. Objections may be posted in the Hall of Fame thread.
6: If you see a post or piece of artwork on this site that you feels deserves to be the post/art of the week, send me a referral. Depending on how many referrals I get, I'll select at random, and put the rest in a queue just in case there's a week where I get no referrals. You may make a referral for yourself, but the post/art in question better be good.
7: I intend to update the site once a week, on Sunday or Monday. News posts will include RP and fiction announcements, Hall of Fame updates, and various other activities that are going on.
8: Please report any bugs or mistakes you find on the Contribution board. I spent all day yesterday making sure the links worked and the formatting was correct, but I still might have missed something.
9: To go along with the site, I have created a new board style. It's called subGreen, and, as it's name suggests, it's... very, very green. I need to fix the post icons, though- the jagged white is very unbecoming.
So! I hope you like the main site!
